I- Leadership transition.

In this portion Moses transfers leadership to Joshua. What a pity that Korah could not see this, for his rebellion was precisely because he complained about Moses’ family favoritism. However, when we see that this time has come to transfer his leadership, he conferred the responsibility on Joshua who did not even have any family connection with him. Joshua was simply the most suitable for the position because he was God’s chosen one.

Under God’s perspective, a leader is not chosen for his or her power of oratory; in fact, Moisés would have lost to former U.S. President Barack Obama. Nor is he chosen for fame or for his outstanding public appearances. How many congregations have failed in this stage of leadership transition? Not only because they have ceased to exist as congregations, but because they have mutated into an image very different from that of the Creator, becoming enemies of His values and purposes.

A leader among God’s people is elected, on other grounds:

(1) You are not interested in entering a competition with others for office.

(2) He is answerably afraid that he will not be able to distinguish at some point between the desire to serve God and to serve himself.

(3) He longs to be understood to walk in the vision God has given him and avoids fanatical submission to His will or flattery.

(4) He is willing to do what is divinely right regardless of what people will think of him[1].

II- We build the future by educating the next generation.

In Deuteronomy 31:19 we find the key to social welfare: “The next generations.” For this, it is not enough to have the truth to teach them, it must reach them as if it were a song in their ears.

Today, all of us who interact with large numbers of people in the counseling field can say that inside and outside the church the frustration and intellectual deterioration are abysmal. One of the causes can be found in secular and religious educational systems that have been more responsible for transmitting information than educating, and thus have deteriorated the entire emotional system that surrounds this process.

That is why the educational program that any congregation employs must avoid becoming something that fills an agenda but creates a place in an effective educational framework such as everyone needs[2]

Questions:

1.- What differentiates a leader in God’s people from one in Coca Cola?

2.- How could a church work to combat the growing number of brethren who say that they were not born to read and therefore learn from the Bible only on Sunday with the sermon?

3.- What differences do you find between Korah and Joshua to assume leadership?
